The making of clay pots and the weaving of baskets are the two oldest handicrafts. Mexican alfareros (potters) produce terracotta-ware made from natural clay fired in simple kilns in a variety of indigenous styles. Pottery villages have grown up near the sites of natural clay deposits. Each region produces their pottery in a distinctive combination of surface finish, color and design such as barro canela (the Tonalá pottery made of cinnamon-scented clay), and the burnished earthenware such as the unique black pottery from San Bartolo de Coyotepec, Oaxaca. All our pottery can be used in most any style of dollhouse - Southwestern, Colonial, etc.

The color is not painted on but is achieved during the firing process.
