Club de Yates de Chapala was inaugurated in 1960 when one would see many Guadalajarans on the lake every week boating, water skiing and swimming - this is no longer the case. Lake Chapala is in jeopardy of becoming extinct until the last several years where, because of heavy rainfalls, it is rebounding.

In 2007, the lake's water level jumped by 30 centimeters during the first 10 days of August. This is the heaviest rainfall and water gain since 1992. Last fall, the lake had reached 59% capacity. With at least a month left in this year's rainy season, the water level stands at 58 percent capacity.

Whether Mexico's largest natural lake will ever be at full capacity again is unknown. However, Club de Yates de Chapala continues recruiting new members and many old members have remained faithful despite the Lake's declining water level.

Located on the shore of Lake Chapala, their beautiful facility includes boat launching and storage, restaurant, swimming pool, soccer field, and beautiful grounds.

Director, Beatriz González Luna Ruiz is dedicated to bringing culture and new members to the yacht club. The Feria was delighted when Beatriz agreed to approach the Club de Yates de Chapala Board proposing that the 2007 Feria was held on their grounds. We are happy to say that they have invited us back for 2008.

The folk and indigenous art available at this show is diverse and there are no middle-man prices because the artists pay nothing to attend the show - no booth fee, no percentage of sales, they are housed with local families and fed while at the show. We are very grateful to the Club de Yates de Chapala for allowing us to use their facility.

Club de Yates de Chapala is very easy to find nestled between two Mexican seafood restaurants on Paseo Ramon Corona as shown on the map.
