Enedina Vásquez Cruz
Terracotta Figures with Regional, Religious and National Themes

Enedina Vásquez Cruz recreates history in clay. She takes deep pride in having broken from tradition by creating new designs and techniques that have won her acclaim in the world of ceramics. Enedina distinguishes between artisans and artists. She believes the latter require more experience in life and thinks of herself as an "artist."

Her growing reputation for her female figures dressed in regional costumes from the seven regions of Oaxaca. She aslo makes two-sided pieces, for example the birth of Mexico on one sidee and the Virgin of Soledad on the other.

Enedina's work is inspired by her suenos (dreams). She does all her own work, start to finish. She hopes that her daughters will eventually learn her art form and follow in her footsteps impressing collectors with new innovations.
